Help your children's school...
Everyone knows that in the modern world, we produce too much waste! The quantity of household and commercial waste disposed of annually by local authorities in Ireland is estimated at 1.1 million tonnes.
The cost of disposing of this waste is a drain on the resources of our country in terms of landfill sites, transport and manpower, and there is a loss to the economy of the valuable materials which are dumped.
When this is coupled with the further 4.86 million tonnes of waste being disposed of by private firms, it is obvious that something has got to be done. Another aspect of modern life is the lack of funding going to our schools throughout Ireland and the UK.
Schools are constantly in need of cash for computers, sports equipment and trips away. Cookstown Textile Recyclers (CTR) has come up with an imaginative way to help save our planet and raise much-needed funds for your children’s school – Cash for Clobber. We will pay your children’s school for each bag that we collect on the designated day.
And, most importantly of all, the scheme raises recycling awareness among our children. With the environmental challenges that we now face, it is important that the citizens of the future become aware of the impact that everyday waste has on our environment.
Through the Cash for Clobber scheme, our kids come to realize the environmental and economic benefits of recycling by reducing the need for landfill; reducing the pressure on our natural resources; increasing exports and reducing imports; reducing pollution; helping local charities; and, of course, raising cash for their school.
All clean and dry clothes, shoes, hats, gloves, handbags, textiles and blankets can be recycled. The best quality items are then re-worn or re-used in developing countries while the not-so-good quality items are shredded and recycled as wipers for the car industry. Heavy and poor quality items are recycled or ‘flocked’ and are used as stuffing for mattresses and sofas.
